We now offer guided tours for groups exclusively in connection with an introductory session. Please plan at least three hours for this offer.
The themes of the guided tour are the Buchenwald concentration camp, its changing functions, and its entanglement with the City of Weimar as well as the civilian population and businesses. The tour offers insights into the inmates' perspectives, but also those of the perpetrators and other involved persons.
Starting at the visitor information centre, the path first leads to a group room. There, an introductory session offers the group the opportunity to arrive at the site and approach the topic.
Afterwards, the guided tour will proceed to various sites on the memorial grounds. To take the participants' interests, prior knowledge, and emotional and cognitive needs into account, the tour is designed to be dialogical. As most of the original buildings no longer exist, we study a model of the former camp grounds to help participants visualize the historical site.
