Initiative on the Halle Subcamp

Sponsor of the Station

The Halle Subcamp Initiative was founded in 2022 with the aim of researching the history of the Birkhahn subcamp and Nazi forced labour at the Siebel aircraft factories in Halle (Saale) and making it accessible to the public.
Originally a student group at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle, we are now an interdisciplinary group of students of history, education, art history, communication studies and fine arts at the BURG and Martin Luther University, as well as professionals in various professions.
With our voluntary work, we want to research the history of the largely unknown subcamp of the Buchenwald concentration camp and forced labour in the Siebel aircraft factories and make it accessible to a broad public through formats such as an audio walk, joint site tours, radio reports and lectures, and much more. Through our commitment, we want to complement the regional remembrance landscape in and around the city of Halle (Saale) and make a contribution to the fight against anti-Semitism, right-wing extremism and misanthropy as well as for a democratic and open Germany.
