The agricultural worker Mitrofan Moros was captured by the Germans in Belarus on 10 July 1941. At the time, he was registered as a soldier in a construction battalion. By way of various collection points and a camp in Poland, he was committed to the Mühlberg/Elbe POW camp in late September. It must have been there that fellow prisoners denounced him as a political officer. He was transferred to the Zeithain POW camp, where he was interrogated by the Gestapo Dresden. His prisoner registration card was stamped ‘commissar’. On 22 October 1941 he was deprived of his status as a prisoner of war and transported to Buchenwald. The SS shot him to death in the stable. His wife was not informed about his fate.
