Julius „Jule“ Lehmann

An Eintracht Frankfurt player

In 2012, the club had a stumbling stone laid in memory of Julius Lehmann at Eintracht's Riederwald performance centre in Frankfurt. It commemorates one of its members who fell victim to Nazi terror.

Julius Lehmann was a Frankfurt boy. He was born here in 1914 into a football-loving family. His brother Max, who was ten years older and already active in the youth section of Eintracht, recruited new members. In 1929, he convinced "Jule", as friends called him, to play for Eintracht's youth team. His position: defender. Because they were Jewish, dark times began for the Lehmann family after the National Socialists came to power. While his brother Max had to resign from his position as early as 1933, Julius was initially allowed to continue playing. The trained mechanic played for Eintracht's second and third teams. In his last match in the summer of 1937, he converted a penalty. After that, he never wore the Eintracht jersey again

The terror against the Jewish population increased. After the November pogroms in 1938, Julius and his brother Max were deported to Buchenwald. The SS held them there for three months. They returned to Frankfurt in mid-February 1939. Julius presumably tried to flee to Switzerland. But he was unable to leave Germany. In May 1942, he was deported to the Lublin area in German-occupied Poland. After that, his trail is lost. His brother Max survived. He later had his brother declared dead. The authorities set the date of his death as May 8, 1945 - the day the war ended in Europe.
