11 April 2026 marks the 81th anniversary of the liberation of Buchenwald concentration camp.
It is the 81th anniversary. Four days before the liberation, on 7 April 1945, the SS began to clear the camp.
Tens of thousands of prisoners were sent on so-called death marches. About one in three
died of exhaustion on the way or was murdered by the SS, the Volkssturm or young
or youths of the Hitler Youth.
Since 1999, trees have been planted along the routes of the death marches from Buchenwald concentration camp as living memorials to the victims of National Socialism as part of the 1000 Beech Trees project. These trees are symbols of remembrance, democracy, and human rights.
On the occasion of this year's anniversary of the liberation of Buchenwald Concentration Camp, we will be
project "1000 Buchen", we cordially invite you to join us for a tree planting event on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. on the grounds of Nohra Landscape Park.
