The short film ‘Un tout petit numéro’ (A very small number), sensitively shot as a graphic novel by Luc Lavault, follows Rahmil Vainberg (1921 - 2018), a French Jew who was imprisoned in a satellite camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau, on his escape through the snowy forest.

Sabrina Vainberg talks to Luc Lavault about her grandfather, who was arrested in Paris and deported to the Auschwitz extermination camp via Drancy in June 1942. He survived almost three years in prison as well as a failed escape attempt in Auschwitz and arrived at Buchenwald concentration camp on 26 January 1945 with the evacuation transports. He finally arrived back in Paris on 10 May 1945 after a three-week death march.

In co-operation with the Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora Memorials Foundation and the Institut français d'Allemagne, with the support of the Franco-German Civic Fund.
