Duration of Your Visit
Because of the size of the memorial grounds and the variety of exhibition and other informational programming, we recommend that you allow at least 2½ hours for your visit to the memorial.
The memorial is located on the Ettersberg hill at an elevation of nearly 480 metres. Even on sunny days, the memorial site is often cold and windy. We recommend that you wear warm clothing and closed shoes.
If children are accompanying you on your visit to the memorial, we ask that you ensure their appropriate behaviour. We recommend that you do not visit the camp prison, the former crematorium and the exhibitions with children under 12 years of age.
Please remember that dogs are not permitted on the grounds of the former concentration camp, with the exception of guide dogs.
Visitor restrooms are located at the museum café as well as in the museum buildings.
Visits to the memorial and the exhibitions are free of charge. Fees are assessed only for the use of special educational services, such as guided tours, and for multimedia guide rental.
The Förderverein Buchenwald e.V. association offers opportunities for voluntary work on behalf of the memorial.
Donations to support the work of the memorial are greatly appreciated.
