Rudi Ball

Rudi Ball was one of the best ice hockey players in Europe in the early 1930s. The rather small, technically adept and incredibly skilful player led the Berliner Schlittschuh-Club to six German championships in a row between 1928 and 1933.

In 1936, Ball was called up to the German Olympic team. Allegedly, the best German player at the time, Gustav Jaenecke, made his participation dependent on Ball's nomination. Ball then remained in Berlin and, as a ‘half-Jew’, was allowed to play for the BSC until 1943. He emigrated to South Africa in 1948.
