At the centre of the inmates' camp was the roll call square. It was surrounded by various service buildings. The accommodation barracks were primarily located on the slope.
The SS area consisted of accommodation barracks and service buildings for the concentration camp guard units and the SS camp administration personnel.
The railway station was where inmate transports from other concentration camps arrived. It also served as a freight station for the rocket factory.
Concentration camp inmates were put to work assembling rocket weapons in the tunnel facilities in the Kohnstein. Initially the inmates were also lodged in the tunnels.
There are numerous commemorative sites and markers on the grounds of the concentration camp memorial.
