Museological Collection

The collection of the concentration camp memorial comprises some 4,500 objects. The majority are objects from the inmates’ personal possessions as well as articles of everyday use within the framework of forced labour, for example fragments of tools or armaments.

The museological collection is divided into four historical eras:

  • Mittelbau-Dora Concentration Camp, forced labour in the National Socialist era and in the armament industry (in the Mittelwerk in particular) (1943–45)
  • DP Camp Dora and post-war period (1945–47)
  • Dora-Mittelbau Memorial (1947–89; German Democratic Republican period)
  • The memorial after 1989

A particularly valuable category of objects is constituted by the donations and estates of concentration camp survivors who have placed their personal souvenirs in the memorial’s possession for permanent safekeeping.
