Mourning the death of Pierre Marc Mittelbau-Dora concentration camp survivor

We mourn the loss of Pierre Marc, a survivor of the Mittelbau-Dora concentration camp. He died on 16 April this year in his home town of Saint-Claude (Jura) a few weeks before his 100th birthday.

Guy Morand was arrested for his activities in the French Resistance and was sent to Mittelbau-Dora concentration camp via Compiègne and Buchenwald. After his liberation in Bergen-Belsen, he was actively involved in the Comité de la Résistance et de la Déportation des Alpes-Maritimes.

79. Jahrestag der Befreiung des KZ Mittelbau-Dora Gedenkfeier am Montag, 15. April – Überlebende Jerry Wartski und Albrecht Weinberg in Nordhausen erwartet

Vor 79 Jahren, am 11. April 1945, wurde das Konzentrationslager Mittelbau-Dora durch US-amerikanische Truppen befreit. Im Lager fanden die Soldat:innen nur noch wenige hundert Häftlinge vor. Der Großteil der Häftlinge war zu diesem Zeitpunkt bereits auf Räumungs-transporte getrieben worden. Ihre Befreiung erlebtem sie oft erst Wochen später, tausende starben auf den „Todesmärschen“ oder noch nach der Befreiung.
