How to reach the Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora Memorials

Buchenwald Memorial

The Buchenwald Memorial is located approximately ten kilometres north of the Weimar city centre. Take Bus No. 6 from Goetheplatz or the main station in the direction of Buchenwald (not Ettersburg). There is a large car park at the memorial for private automobiles and travel coaches. Here you will find a map of the area.

Mittelbau-Dora Concentration Camp Memorial

Mittelbau-Dora Concentration Camp Memorial is located on the north-western edge of the city of Nordhausen, north of the community of Salza and west of the community of Krimderode. It can be reached easily by car, rail or – upon request – by municipal bus.

Car: The access road to the memorial branches off from Route B4 north of Nordhausen (i.e. on the section of the B4 between Nordhausen and Magdeburg) and is clearly marked from both directions. Here you will find a map of the area.

Narrow-gauge railway: Harz Schmalspurbahn to the Nordhausen-Krimderode stop, from there a 20-minute walk.

Train: Deutsche Bahn, Niedersachswerfen station, from there a 30-minute walk.

Bus: Bus transport to the memorial must be arranged one hour in advance by calling the Nordhausen public transport authority at 01805 – 99-20-05 (14 ct/min.): Line A from “Nordhausen/Bahnhofsplatz” (station square) at 11:25 am / change to Line G at “Karl-Liebknecht-Platz”, departure for memorial at 11:40 am; departure for Nordhausen from memorial at 5:17 pm.
